The Chills are an exciting and innovative new band on the Perth music scene. Their unique blend of soul, funk, RnB and blues combined with a touch of classic
Aussie rock has the versatility to cater a variety of audiences and situations.
Ben and Carmelo met whilst teaching music at a respected Perth school. They soon found that they had similar tastes in music and decided to form a band. When a
‘friend of a friend’ introduced them to Lauralee, The Chills were complete. Now firm friends, they share a common desire to play great music, honouring the legends of
the past with new approaches to great songs.
The Chills use only live instruments to deliver the best possible groove for audiences to ‘chill’ to, or get up and boogie on the dance floor. The powerful trio
comprising of a female vocalist, keyboardist/male vocalist and drums combines soaring and soulful vocals with high quality musicianship to create earthy and
irrepressible grooves.
The trio can deliver faithful renditions of classic songs as well as fresh and creative interpretations of the songs you love. Captivating mashups of tracks that combine
both the classic and the new further display the artistry of this ensemble. Rarities and B sides also appear in the repertoire, engaging audiences with timeless tracks
that have slipped out of the mainstream.

LAURALEE – VOCALS
Lauralee is an outstanding vocalist with a deeply soulful voice that can bristle with intensity and soothe like honey. Her performances bring fresh excitement to the
present while evoking the memories of the great vocalists of the past. With a pedigree richly steeped in Perth music history, Lauralee was always destined to
excel in the arts, becoming an accomplished dancer before turning to the family business of making music. She has wowed audiences on stages across WA
including; The Ellington jazz club and the state’s finest wedding venues. She regularly also performs with some of Perth’s best bands and finest musicians
including Rick Steele, Patrick Woodley, U2ME and the Baker Boys. Lauralee describes her musical concept as being about “the feel” of music and how it affects
people. This desire to connect and interact with the audience along with her tremendous talent and ability make for a performance not to be missed.
CARMELLO – DRUMS
Italian born and Perth raised Carmelo Sollazzo is a veritable ‘Da Vinci’ of the drums. An original member of the commercially successful band The Boys, Carmelo now
draws from his vast experience of playing in a some of Perth’s best bands including: Vibe (founding member), Amanda Dee and many more. Carmelo
demonstrates virtuosity tempered by sensitivity and a deep connection to music. Most significantly Carmelo’s style is defined by his exceptional groove and rhythmic
control. Carmelo’s skills also allow him to play quietly when required – an invaluable asset to bands providing entertainment in smaller, noise sensitive venues. Carmelo is also a respected educator and is in the final stages of completing his own method book for the drums.
BEN – KEYS / VOCALS / SYNTH
Ben Nicholls is a highly accomplish pianist and keyboardist with advanced technical ability and a passion for soulful, funky music. He has been a professional musician
for over fifteen years, working extensively as a keyboardist, pianist, vocalist, producer and film composer across Perth, WA and internationally in a variety of
situations. He has performed with well-known Perth cover bands including Groove Night Avenue, The Baker Boys, Big Red Sky, Darren Reid and the Soul City Groove,
and The Soul Corporation. He has backed well known Perth singers Annie Neil, Catherine Summers, Chelsea J, Felicity Visic, Annalise Walker and Shameem
Taheri-Lee. He has performed alongside some of Perth’s best musicians. Ben has worked internationally with high profile cover bands including Jetstar (UAE, 2006)
and Zip Up (Various locations across Asia 2003-4). Ben has performed solo for crowds of up to ten thousand people. In recent years Ben has further developed his
skills at the prestigious West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, where he obtained a Bachelor of Music – studying jazz piano under some of Australia’s finest
jazz musicians including Jamie Ohlers, Tom O’Halleron and Mark Fitzgibbon. In 2017 Ben obtained a post-graduate diploma in Music Education from the University of
Western Australia.
