Jayden performs saxophone as a soloist or in an accompaniment, or even alongside DJs – so ensure guests get their dancing shoes ready!

Jayden is a capable sight reader and can play any of the classic wedding cover repertoire (Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson, ABBA etc) either with charts or by ear, along with his own Original Jazz music.

Originally from Perth, Jayden completed his undergraduate studies at the renowned James Morrison Academy in Mount Gambier. He studied under the guidance of some of the most in demand Australian jazz musicians including names such as: Mat Jodrell, Carl Mackey, Angela Davis, Grant Windsor, and James Morrison himself. Upon graduating, he was awarded the medal of Academic Excellence amongst his competitive cohort.

In 2018, Jayden Blockley was the winner of the prestigious James Morrison Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to young Australian jazz musicians who demonstrate exceptional talent and artistry. The competition has a long history and boasts names of some of Australia’s finest jazz musicians including Troy Roberts, Jamie Oehlers, Mat Jodrell and Dane Alderson.

Jayden has also been extensively involved in performances at the Generations In Jazz festival, originally as a student and later as a performing artist. As a student, he was recognised as an outstanding soloist by being awarded a position in the ‘Super Band’ on multiple occasions. In more recent years, he has performed in the festival alongside artists such as Gordon Goodwin, Wycliffe Gordon, Kurt Elling, Joey DeFrancesco and Jeff Clayton.

Jayden completed his undergraduate studies under the tutelage of world-renowned saxophonist Jamie Oehlers at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. His research into practice-led reflective processes was awarded First Class Honours. Jayden Blockley was also awarded the recitalist performance prize upon graduation.

In 2022, Jayden Blockley was selected as one of the members of the Australian National Jazz Orchestra (ANJO), Youth Orchestra. The band performed at the Sydney Con Jazz Festival and will also perform at the Perth International Jazz Festival, a festival that Jayden has been heavily involved in, most notably as the musical host of ‘The Jazz Dinner’ in 2020 and 2021.

In 2019, Jayden Blockley recorded his debut album as a bandleader, ‘I Wrote A Song For Her, For Me’. The much-anticipated album was released on the ABC Jazz label in March 2020. Jayden’s original composition ‘Song for a Better Day’ received a WAM nomination for song of the year. Two years from release, the album has received over a million international plays across streaming platforms.

Jayden Blockley ensures a wonderfully diverse Jazz repertoire, including crowd favourites.
