Renowned for their emotional lyricism and powerful stage presence, Perth favourites Joan & The Giants have been captivating audiences with their distinctive brand of alternative-pop. The band began with longtime partners Nyul Nyul man Aaron Birch and powerhouse queer vocalist Grace-Newton Wordsworth, who formed Joan & The Giants in 2019. Coming together from different backgrounds, Aaron from a remote Indigenous community in the Kimberley and Grace from a farm down South of WA, the pair are now based in Perth with band members Riley Sutton and Liam Olsen.

No strangers to the spotlight, Joan & The Giants have embarked on multiple sold out WA tours and most recently a debut headline East Coast tour. The band have headlined festivals to thousands of people, had rave reviews, a premiere and airplay on Triple J and rotation on Unearthed. Fresh off their three wins at the 2023 WA Song of The Year Awards, Joan & The Giants won the ‘Best Rock Song’ & ‘Outstanding Indigenous’ on their single ‘Cool Kid’ with a runner up place for Song of The Year. In 2022 JATG’s debut EP spent over 3 months on the top 10 metro community radio charts.

They also received multiple nominations in last year’s prestigious International Songwriting Competition alongside artists such as Missy Higgins and Eskimo Joe. The band has also toured & shared stages with the likes of Eskimo Joe, Winterbourne, Caravana Sun, Didirri, Odette, Weyes Blood & more.

“Joan & The Giants, have a knack for writing songs that pull at the heartstrings” (AU Review)

“Poignant, heartfelt, and achingly raw” (Scenestr) [About ‘Just For You’]

“A moving and important love song with depth and real life pain.” (Declan Byrne, Triple J) [About ‘Home Song’]

“On top of a myriad of stunning influences Joan & The Giants really do remind me of Wolf Alice. They have that same sense of emotive momentum that only gets more intense the further along you progress. Then it leaves you hanging at the end, at it’s climax… so far in your feels and never the same. Captivating stuff! – (Anika Luna, Triple J)
