Helen Shanahan is a folk singer/songwriter from Perth, Western Australia. Her songs ride the joys and sorrows of love and life and draw the listener into an articulate and heartfelt world of story, melody and guitar, through her own eyes. Helenβs thoughtful observations and introverted reflections of everyday situations are beautifully captured in her music, which can best be described as contemporary folk/pop with a strong acoustic feel.
Helen Shanahan graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) majoring in voice. Helen has been professionally performing for the past 15 years, balancing her original music with performing at functions, weddings and special events. Her style can be described as a mix between Joni Mitchell and Eva Cassidy. Helen Shanahan has provided strong support to Missy Higgins, Tim Minchin, Birds of Tokyo, Pete Murray, Passenger and Matt Corby. In 2018 Helen Shanahan won the Western Australian Music Industry βSong of the Yearβ award for her song βI Only Hideβ, and has performed around Australia and abroad.
βAs I listen to Helen, the warm winter sun streams through my kitchen window and I almost feel I could be lying in a field of gold, listening to birds, watching windmills. I am in love with her voice, her melody, her poetry, her musicβ¦She sounds a little like Missy Higgins, but then again I could be listening to the new Eva Cassidy β
