Nick Marvin is a respected business leader, management consultant, and organisational transformation specialist, best known for leading one of the most successful periods in Australian professional sport. As Managing Director of the Perth Wildcats, he transformed a struggling basketball club into a championship-winning organisation renowned for its culture, community impact, and commercial success.
Appointed in 2009, Nick inherited a club facing significant financial challenges and a lengthy premiership drought. Despite having little previous experience in professional sport, he introduced a values-driven leadership model focused on purpose, accountability, character, and community engagement. The results were extraordinary, with the Wildcats reaching six grand finals, winning four NBL championships, and achieving sustained profitability—an unprecedented achievement in Australian basketball at the time.
Central to Nick’s leadership philosophy was the belief that culture drives performance. Under his guidance, the Wildcats embedded clear behavioural standards, prioritised education and personal development for players, and established one of the country’s most extensive community engagement programs. This approach not only delivered success on the court but also strengthened the club’s connection with supporters and the wider community.
Beyond basketball, Nick has spent more than two decades advising organisations across the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors on leadership, strategy, and organisational change. He has worked alongside some of Western Australia’s most respected business leaders, helping organisations build high-performing teams and navigate periods of transformation.
As a keynote speaker, Nick shares compelling lessons on creating purpose-led cultures, empowering people, and leading through change. Blending practical business experience with inspiring stories from elite sport, he demonstrates how values-based leadership can drive exceptional performance, lasting success, and meaningful organisational impact.
